What is an Electric Actuated Ball Valve?
Electric actuated ball valves, also known as motorized ball valves or rotary ball valves, are the most popular choice for ball valve automation. These products use an electric motor to operate the ball valve and control the flow of media.
Here’s a breakdown of the components:
- Electric: Refers to the use of voltage to power the actuator.
- Actuator: The component that is used to automate control of the ball valve. This uses voltage to power the valve on/off.
- Ball Valve: A quarter-turn on/off valve that controls the flow of liquid or gas media via a pivoting ball.
When an Electric Actuated Ball Valve is Necessary
When there is no air supply available to operate a pneumatic actuated ball valve, an electric actuator is advised. Compared to pneumatic actuators, most electric valves offer slower index times and can prevent water hammer in applications with high velocity or pressure.
Electric actuated ball valves are used by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and for industrial and commercial applications.
